Press Release: Frost & Sullivan Honors ClearDB for Robust DBaaS Suite
ClearDB’s flexible deployment and delivery options allow enterprises to deploy services spanning computing, storage, private/on-premise cloud and high availability needs
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — March 16, 2016 — Frost & Sullivan today announced it has recognized ClearDB, a leading provider of non-stop database virtualization services for native cloud, and hybrid database-as-a-service applications, with the 2016 North American Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Leadership. Based on Frost and Sullivan’s recent analysis of the database-as-a-service (DBaaS) market, ClearDB’s services work with all modern databases including relational and My SQL data stores.
ClearDB’s non-stop database virtualization services for native cloud, and hybrid database-as-a-service applications are available through a wide variety of Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) solutions including Amazon AWS, CenturyLink AppFog, IBM Bluemix, Salesforce.com Heroku, Pivotal Cloud Foundry and Microsoft Azure. The flexible service is easy to integrate and optimizes the computing efficiency of database applications. With its broad choice in deployment models and well-architected, secure services, ClearDB has a clear edge over its competitors.
ClearDB’s DBaaS virtualization services eliminate database sprawl, administrative complexity and inefficient infrastructure asset costs that can limit business innovation. The company’s database virtualization services provide enterprises with broad deployment options, in addition to a highly available, secure non-stop database services with architecture that eliminates complexity. Its geo-distributed nodes and automatic global replication restores service in the event that a cluster or node fails. The databases are divided into redundant clusters that are physically dispersed among a wide variety of nodes in different data centers to further enhance service reliability.
“We are honored to present ClearDB with Frost & Sullivan’s Product Leadership Award. In addition to standard security features and geo-distributed, redundant nodes, ClearDB employs master-master replication, allowing multiple databases to act as a master,” said Frost & Sullivan industry analyst, Karyn Price. “In the event of a node failure, or even an entire datacenter outage, another database acts as the primary database and continues to send queried information to workloads and replicate data to every other master copy of the database. This configuration helps ClearDB to seamlessly activate another instance of the same node without customer intervention or even knowledge in the event of a failure.”
Operation to the original master will be restored once the failed server is operational again. In contrast, many of ClearDB’s competitors eschew the master-master technique in favor of a master-slave structure, distributing the clusters within a particular region or on different machines within the same data center, with only one acting as the master. In this situation, if the master database fails, manual intervention is required to ensure appropriate replication, and data loss or application service problems are possible.
ClearDB has created service tiers for its portfolio, with varying degrees of storage, connections, master copies, and entry points. The tiered service levels let customers align workload and fault tolerance needs with budget. A free trial subscription is also available through the Heroku platform and on Microsoft Azure. In addition, ClearDB provides around-the-clock monitoring and support, without charging additional fees. Other competitors present both monitoring and support as fee-based add-on services for customers.
“ClearDB’s wide choice in deployment and availability through leading PaaS and IaaS platform providers make it highly attractive to enterprise customers,” noted Price. “Businesses that choose ClearDB have the opportunity to satisfy the needs of many developers and application users with a suite of database virtualization services from a single source.”
Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents the Product Leadership award to the company that has developed a product with innovative features and functionality that is gaining rapid acceptance in the market. The award recognizes the quality of the solution and the customer value enhancements it enables.
